Take Care of Your Shears!
Take good care of your shears! They are the most important tools you own. Rust, tarnish and debris are the shears largest enemy, so be sure to clean your shears after each use. If your shear develops a dark gray film or blackened area, have it serviced as soon as possible. Do not cut anything but hair with your shears! Using them to cut perm bottle tops and towel bands will nick and possibly misalign your shears. Your shears will also require servicing more often with mistreatment. If the bumper falls out, use a band-aid to wrap around the finger holes until it can be a serviced. Consistently oiling your shears will help to prolong their life and keep them in top condition. To apply oil: open the shears and apply oil between the blades at the pivot point. Work the shears back and forth several times, wipe them down with a clean tissue or chamois. Always have your shears sharpened by a reputable service person.
